Digg is awesome (sort of)

Yes, you read that right. Digg had been my entry to the “international” web. I stopped reading Clubic to go reading stuff on Digg. Sure, it was a long time ago, and it was, as everybody agree, “waaay better back then”.

I used to agree. But then I came back to Digg.

I love what Kevin Rose is doing, the guy’s good, I’ve been watching Diggnation since episode 50 or so (that means about 3 years of 40 minute geekfest every week). I stopped using Digg about 18 months ago, what it became more “mainstream” (sure it’s still very geeky, but there are chicks on the site now). It got cluttered with pictures of puppies and atheist pamphlets and well… that’s not news, and it certainly isn’t interesting. So I stumbled upon Hacker News, which I still read daily.

But I found out that, when tweaked properly, digg is still good. They’re working on some very insteresting stuff. You can (and need to) customize what topics you can see. Here’s my configuration :

I got these in “top stories” :

Not bad, right? (I really should’ve done a before/after thing, but I’m just too lazy)

So… I strongly encourage you to give digg another chance, because they’re good guys, they’re independant (unlike reddit, which is owned my CondeNet) and they’re the best at breaking news. If something crazy is going on, it’s on digg first (I mean right after twitter, of course…).

So yes, I’m back on digg for now. Friend me up if you want to.
